This workshop is limited to 8 people. Must be 12 years of age or older to participate.

Rain date: Sunday, July 6th 2025 10:30am – 12:00pm. Cost – $45.00

Included in the class: Beekeeping workshop, lavender soda for after the class, and a 168g jar of honey to take home.

Get ready to dive into the fascinating world of bees! Our hands-on beekeeping workshop is designed to take you beyond the books and immerse you directly in the hive.

Imagine the gentle buzz of thousands of bees as you, under the guidance of experienced beekeepers, learn the practical skills needed to manage your own colony. You will be suited up in protective gear, getting up close and personal with these incredible insects.

We’ll start with the essentials: understanding bee biology and the intricate social structure within the hive. Then, we’ll move on to the exciting part – opening a real beehive! You’ll learn how to safely handle frames, identify the queen, drones (male bees), female worker bees, spot brood (baby bee) cells, and recognize different types of honey and pollen stores.

You’ll get hands-on experience with essential beekeeping tools, from the smoker that calms the bees to the hive tool used for gentle manipulation. We’ll demonstrate how to perform routine hive inspections, looking for signs of health, disease, and pests. Plus, we’ll cover crucial seasonal management techniques, so you’ll know how to prepare your bees for the changing weather in Durham.

This workshop is perfect for anyone curious about bees or beekeeping, whether you’re dreaming of harvesting your own honey, contributing to pollination, or simply fascinated by the natural world. You’ll leave with the confidence and practical knowledge to take the next steps in your beekeeping journey.

Spaces are limited to ensure personalized attention, so don’t miss this opportunity to experience the magic of the hive firsthand!
